This is a contemporary extension to an existing Pettit and Sevitt house built in the1960s at Bilgola Plateau.

The design seeks to respect and retain the integrity of the original house by providing a separate pavilion-style building. The structure is carefully located on the site to retain the large canopy Angophoras and Pittwater views to the west.  Using the slope of the site, the main floor connects to the existing house via a glazed link with a new floor located underneath. A series of outdoor spaces are provided to offer living flexibility for the family. Materials, roof form and architectural character have been designed to complement the existing house but with a contemporary expression.

As the main aspect of the house is to the west, the design mitigates the harsh effects of the western sun with a series of deep brick blades, eaves overhang and sunhood to minimise low-angled sun penetration. The pavilion is cross-ventilated and louvres are located at high-level to release any rising heat and create a natural cooling effect.
