This Community Centre was developed as a focal point and community hub for the residents of Harrington Park, a new master-planned community near Camden in Sydney’s south-west. The project was completed whilst working for G+A Architects where my role was design and project architect. The design developed as a result of significant stakeholder and community engagement, matching the future user’s aspirations with the developer’s budget. The resulting building accommodates two halls, a meeting room, craft room, offices, kitchen, toilets, communal courtyard; children’s play area and half-court basketball.

The building has a large tower roof form to enable identification from a distance. It is located prominently on the main access road as a key element of the neighbourhood centre. Materials, colours and architectural character were designed to respond to the adjacent residential style whilst being low-maintenance anddurable. The intent was that the local residents and users of the community centre would relate to the facility and therefore develop a sense of ownership.
