Highlands Sales Centre and Regional Office

Highlands is Stockland’s largest Victorian residential project, located in Craigieburn on Melbourne’s northern fringe and planned to accommodate some 7000 homes, when complete.  The Highlands Sales Centre and Regional Office was required to create a presence and focal point in a newly developed landscape that included a purpose-built lake.  The site was predominantly flat with high-visibility from the adjacent Craigieburn Road in both directions.

Working within the constraint of a tight budget, the design proposed a single-storey building with a prominent roof form to maximise visibility.  The building cranks in plan to respond to the lake edge and adjoining walkways with the central pivot point accommodating the building entry in a tall, glazed structure.  The remaining building is timber clad with a steeply pitched corrugated metal roof, reminiscent of traditional rural  buildings.

Internally the building accommodates a reception area connecting to a sales and information space that flows through to a café.  These spaces are located to have views out to the adjacent lake.  At the other end of the building, an office space houses the project operations team with associated meeting room, ancillary spaces and separate entry.

The building was designed whilst working as a member of Stockland Design House.  Detail design and documentation was done by De Jong Architects.
